According to CASE Ukraine CEO Dmytro Boyarchuk, Ukraine should have long ago removed all restrictions — additional payments, excise duties for customs clearance of vehicles, — to be it the same as in Europe, where we go.
It’s good when people may have an available car without overpaying. Excise duties and these payments are not a significant source of state budget incomes. The existing prohibitions are allegedly imposed to stimulate a domestic demand. There are enough influential people who are interested in buying their products rather than more accessible European cars. Therefore, it is more prohibitive mechanism which limits the free market. The question is solved not in a civilized way.
There are much cheaper cars in all the countries around us. In Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Poland cars are much cheaper. Why Ukrainian should pay for these obscure things? We are out of luck that we have the domestic auto industry.
The more people use these cars, the more powerful is an impetus to legalize cars with foreign license plates. We could come to that a long time ago — to remove all restrictions like additional payments, excise duties for customs clearance of vehicles, to be it the same as in Europe, where we go.
