The government has promised a minimum wage raise. However, CASE Ukraine`s senior economist Volodymyr Dubrovsky said in a commentary to the ‘Radio Svoboda’ media outlet that the step can bring little benefit, but rather harm.
‘The minimum wage plays any positive role only when it comes to those enterprises that are monopolists in the labor market. Its real goal is, in fact, to raise more unified social taxes, the so-called labor tax, in order to balance that hyperphagic Pension Fund, which is still not possible to balance. Accordingly, I do not see in this event anything good for the economy, except for populism’, Mr. Dubrovsky commented.
